GekkoTech SA (“GekkoTech”, “we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy and processes personal information in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and, where applicable, other laws that apply to electronic communications, ecommerce, and consumer protection.
This policy covers the marketing website at https://gekkotech.co.za, our online store at shop.gekkotech.co.za (Shopify), and related support channels.

The responsible party for this website, online store, and related communications is:
- Name: GekkoTech SA
- Address: 939 Summit Rd, Knoppieslaagte, Centurion, 0157, South Africa
- Email: info@gekkotech.co.za
- Phone: +27 82 409 4010
- Website: https://gekkotech.co.za
For POPIA queries and data-subject requests, contact our Information Officer: Eswan Holl at info@gekkotech.co.za.
2. Personal information we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may process:
- Identity & contact details — name, email address, phone / WhatsApp number, company name, approximate user count, and any message you send via our forms or messaging channels.
- Enquiry context — page or campaign source, service interest (e.g. Managed IT, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace), and notes needed to respond to your request.
- Technical / usage data — IP address, browser and device type, referring URL, pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP, and similar analytics events collected via cookies or similar technologies (including Google Analytics 4 where enabled).
- Client / delivery data — if you become a customer, information reasonably required to provide connectivity, cloud, Managed IT, and support services under our contracts (for example account contacts, ticket history, and infrastructure details you supply).
- Online store / order data — billing and shipping name and address, email, phone, order contents, payment status, and fulfilment notes when you buy from shop.gekkotech.co.za. Card/payment details are processed by Shopify and its payment providers; we do not store full card numbers on our own systems.
We do not intentionally collect special personal information (as defined in POPIA) through this website. Please do not submit health, biometric, or other special categories of information via our public forms.
3. How we collect information
- Directly from you (contact / lead forms, email, phone, WhatsApp).
- Automatically when you browse our site (cookies, analytics, server logs).
- When you place an order or create an account on our Shopify store.
- From you or your organisation when we deliver contracted IT services.
4. Why we process personal information
We process personal information to:
- Respond to enquiries and book IT health snapshots / consultations.
- Provide, manage, and support our products and services.
- Process and fulfil online orders, returns, warranties, and related customer service for the Shopify store.
- Send service-related messages (quotes, appointments, support updates).
- Improve our website and marketing (including measuring conversions and fixing usability issues).
- Comply with legal obligations and protect our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, dispute handling).
Where POPIA requires consent, we will ask for it. Otherwise we rely on other lawful grounds such as concluding or performing a contract, complying with law, or pursuing legitimate interests that do not override your rights.
5. Operators and sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with trusted operators (processors) who help us run the business, under appropriate arrangements, for example:
- Ecommerce platform — Shopify Inc. and its affiliates operate shop.gekkotech.co.za, including checkout, payments, and store analytics as configured in our Shopify admin. See also Shopify’s own privacy materials for platform-level processing.
- Website hosting & delivery — Vercel (application hosting) and Cloudflare (DNS / edge).
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID configured on this site).
- Communications — email, WhatsApp / telephony providers you choose to contact us on.
- Cloud & productivity vendors — Microsoft, Google, and similar providers when you ask us to set up or manage those services.
- Professional advisers & regulators — where required by law or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
If we configure a lead notification webhook (for example Slack, email, or CRM), enquiry details you submit are forwarded only as needed to respond to you.
6. Cross-border transfers
Some operators store or process information outside South Africa (for example cloud hosting and analytics providers). Where we transfer personal information outside the Republic, we take steps consistent with POPIA section 72 — including using operators in jurisdictions with adequate protection, contractual safeguards, or other lawful transfer mechanisms — and only for the purposes described in this policy.
7. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, or as required by law or contract. Marketing enquiries are typically retained for a reasonable period to follow up and improve our services, then deleted or anonymised. Client records follow our contractual and statutory retention schedules.
8. Security
We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure; if you suspect a vulnerability or incident affecting your information, contact us immediately at info@gekkotech.co.za.
9. Your rights under POPIA
Subject to POPIA and other applicable law, you may request to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct or update inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Object to certain processing, or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
- Request deletion or restriction where legally available.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa).
To exercise these rights, email info@gekkotech.co.za with enough detail for us to verify your identity and locate your records. We may need to refuse or limit a request where the law allows (for example, where disclosure would affect another person’s rights).
